Recovery Plans Begin to Formulate as Texas Relaxes COVID-19 Restrictions

We are more than a week into the lifting of restrictions in Texas. Cities within HD-113 and across our state are beginning the process of planning for the next phases of the reopening plan announced by Gov. Abbot

I’ve been appointed by Mayor Bruce Archer to join the Mesquite Community Recovery Committee as we move towards rebuilding HD-113’s economy. As I have more information to share, I will provide an update in future communications.

As the state moves towards reopening, continue to follow the CDC guidelines and stay safe!

Can we count on you to make a donation today?

With all the change and uncertainty that exists today, this may not be the best time to ask people for money, especially for a political campaign. But donations from supporters like you are the life blood of any candidate for political office.

Your donation will help this campaign reach our monthly goal and continue to do outreach to the community. Our grassroots campaign depends on the generosity of people just like you to help me keep fighting for us all as your Representative. No donation is too great or small.

Happy Mother’s Day!

Whether your children are sheltering at home with you or are miles away, I hope the day is filled with love and laughter and lots of hugs and kisses from those that call you Mom!

Let’s celebrate our Teachers!

Hopefully you let our HD-113 teachers know how much they are appreciated and commend them for keeping our students engaged and learning through this pandemic. Teachers are important members of our community and their efforts help shape the future through our children. Many teachers have had to learn how to quickly adjust to a virtual classroom model, modifying their lesson plans and teaching methods to this “new normal”.

I recently spoke with Dr. Ricardo Lopéz, Garland ISD Superintendent, commending him on the school district’s great work preparing teachers and students for virtual learning. The district was recently featured in a news broadcast as being a model for virtual learning that other school districts around the country are looking at and trying to imitate.

Speaking of teachers making the adjustment, I also want to recognize a teacher that has become somewhat of a celebrity. Her name is Kayla Speed, a GISD teacher at Pearson E.S. and somewhat of a online celebrity. She was featured on the news this week for her innovative Quarantined with Mrs. Speed YouTube channel. With the help of her husband, who is a bit of a video magician, her videos get hundreds of views and her following is growing. Thank you again Kayla and all teachers across HD-113 for what you do!

Thanking cafeteria workers providing needed meals to students!

This week, my staff delivered our official hand sanitizers to some of our best and brightest on the front line – our district cafeteria workers! Thursday, we delivered more hand sanitizers and gave them a hand with food distribution and curbside pickup. There is great reward and fulfillment in service and it’s amazing to see teamwork and systems during crisis! All across the district, our cafeteria workers are doing a wonderful job and providing meals to families in need. It has been inspiring to see the community come together this way to help others and I have met some wonderful people.

THANK YOU TO ALL THE CAFETERIA WORKERS!
