Lessons We Are Learning During This Pandemic

As we all navigate through these uncertain days, I’ve made note of a few observations to share with you. First and foremost, the value of good leadership is immeasurable in the midst of crisis. We have witnessed contrasting and sometimes conflicting leadership styles since the coronavirus was first detected in the U.S. We can debate who has done a better job, but truthful, consistent, people-centered leadership is what we need.

Next, access to affordable healthcare can no longer be considered optional for citizens of one of the wealthiest countries in the world. If we can afford money to bail out large corporations and send checks to millions in order to stave off a collapse of the economy, we can certainly afford to ensure that least among us can receive quality healthcare. We could do this today by expanding medicaid in this state.

Teachers put in a lot of hard work developing lesson plans, providing instruction, and handling the responsibility of ensuring the success of each child that sits in their classroom. There may be many parents of school-aged children who fully appreciate the job teachers do since becoming home schoolers due to social/physical distancing.

As a former educator, I believe the benefits of providing every Texas child with a quality education is imperative to the continued growth of our economy and our collective future.

As a longtime resident Rowlett, I have seen our community overcome seemingly impossible challenges. I have confidence that the residents of HD-113 will rise to the challenge of this crisis and overcome it like we Texans always do. I have had the opportunity to work with so many great people and organizations throughout the State of Texas. They are all dedicated to improving the lives of Texas families in the areas of healthcare, education, and job creation. However, there is more work to be done.

Your contributions and continued faith in my ability to be your voice in Austin helps to ensure that I will be able to do so now and in the future.

Yours in service,

Rhetta Bowers Signature
